The Call

"Arise then...women of this day!
Arise, all women who have hearts!”

In 1870, Julia Ward Howe called for women to band together in opposition of war. She recognized the power that mothers hold as a source for peace, saying,

"We, the women of one country,
Will be too tender of those of another country
To allow our sons to be trained to injure theirs."

Today, Mothers of Heart is calling again for women everywhere to gather in circles this Mother’s Day, to read Julia Ward Howe’s Mother’s Day Proclamation and hold earnest counsel on bringing peace into the world.

Each Mother’s Day Peace Circle is completely autonomous and should reflect whatever is true for those gathering in it. We are linked only by the fact that we each will read the Mother’s Day Proclamation and then hold earnest counsel afterward. Our intention is not to push an agenda, but to promote dialog among participants and encourage action for peace, however that may look for each circle. Each diverse circle, however it decides to meet, whatever it looks like, holds a *"piece" of the peace* we are calling forth."

Would you be willing to gather a circle this Mother’s Day, May 13th, 2007? Click here for information on organizing one.
