Frequently Asked Questions

Q: I want to organize a Peace Circle. How do I get started?
A:
Invite as few or as many people as you want. Choose a meeting place where all attendees will be able to sit in a circle; gathering in a literal circle helps emphasize that this is a discussion among equals, and makes it easy for each person to be heard. Use the Mother’s Day Circles page as a guide for conducting the circle. For more information on starting, conducting, and maintaining circles, see Additional References.

Q: I plan to host a Peace Circle. Can you add it to your events list?
A:
Yes! Send the circle date, time, location, and contact information to info@mothersofheart.org.

Q: Does my Circle have to meet on Mother's Day?
A:
No. Each Circle is autonomous, so each facilitator can take it upon themselves to decide on location, date, time, and the type of Circle format. We are asking Circles to meet on Mother's Day to help reclaim the significance of the actual day. However, having a Circle and talking about the Mother's Day Proclamation is what is most important. If the Circle meets on a different day, that is fine.

Q: Are these Circles only for women?
A: No. Mothers of Heart is a group of mothers calling forth Peace from a place of courage, compassion, and action. But, what we plan and organize is about everyone - the whole family and all the parts - the aunts, the uncles, the grandparents, the husbands, the fathers, the cousins, the children and every aspect that hears the "mother" call and steps forward. Whether or not each individual Circle is only for mothers, or even only for women, is entirely up to the facilitator.

Q: I have written a prayer or meditation on Peace that I would like to make available to others. Can it be added to the site?

A: Yes! Please send it to info@mothersofheart.org for consideration.

Q: Is Mothers of Heart a political group?
A: No, at least not in the sense of supporting any particular political party or endorsing particular political actions. We are encouraging others to work toward Peace in the sense of living in a state of harmony, equality, and mutual respect. We do not have all the answers as to how to get there. Thus, we are not encouraging specific actions, political or otherwise. What we are doing is encouraging others to have open, earnest, heartful dialog around the potential answers. For some Circles, this dialog may lead to engaging in political action; for others it may not. Even among Circles that do engage in political action, the specifics may vary greatly from group to group.

Q: Is Mothers of Heart calling for specific action toward peace?
A: Mothers of Heart is calling for earnest dialog around achieving peace in the world. The common goal of world peace has many, many different facets and multitudinous opportunities for action. Mothers of Heart is not calling for specific action, but rather, whatever action feels appropriate to each individual circle. For some possible actions, see the list of organizations in the Take Action section. Mothers of Heart is not directly linked with any of these organizations; rather, we are suggesting them as directions for further exploration.

Q: There is another organization I would like to see in the Take Action list. How can I get it added?
A: Email the organization’s web address to info@mothersofheart.org for consideration.

Q: Can I make a monetary contribution to Mothers of Heart?
A: Not at this time. We ask instead that you consider donating to one of the organizations listed in the Take Action section.
