TAKING BACK MOTHERHOOD
We are mothers.
We are fierce in our compassion.
We cry for each child that is shot,
Each child that is taken from their mother before fruiting,
Each child that is hungry, lonely, abused,
They are our children.
We do not look the other way.
We do not stick our heads in the sand and say
“Who me?” I can’t do anything so I’d rather not look.
We look.
We bleed.
Each month we bleed for the Earth
And where we bleed flowers rise up
And all living beings flourish.
We are mothers,
There is no stronger force than our love.
We are dangerous to hate and greed and ignorance,
We are dangerous to the architects of war
Who are too embarrassed to malign us,
When we extend our unconditional love their way,
When we look the twisted logic of war strait in the eye,
And say “no more”.
And when we say no, we are not kidding.
We are mothers.
We are radiant with sympathetic joy
We are laughter,
Playfulness,
Beauty,
We are sexy.
That is how we became mothers in the first place.
We are imperfect and not afraid to show it.
You cannot shame us.
We are equal partners with our mates,
Not weak child brides
But strong allies.
They can lean on us,
We can lean on them,
We can stand up strait,
And love this Earth together.
So let’s eat chocolate,
And share a beautiful meal,
But never forget,
That we are mothers.
And we are watching.
We are not afraid to wake up.
